First Annual Rahway RiverFest – Aug. 21st through 28th

First Annual Rahway RiverFest

The Rahway River Watershed Association, sponsored by the City of Rahway, will be hosting its First Annual Rahway RiverFest. The week[1]long celebration from August 21st through 28th includes various events, activities, and exhibits that celebrate the Rahway River.

According to the RiverFest Facebook page, “In true Rahway style, RiverFest will use the arts to bring attention to the river and environment. Music and art will be used to create a scene that will inspire people to rejoice in the spirit of the river and appreciate its many gifts by exploring the connection between rivers, and other bodies of water, in history and mythology in a tongue and cheek nod to the Loch Ness monster and other mythical and magical water creatures.”

Mayor Raymond Giacobbe and the Rahway City Council are thrilled to be part of this one-of[1]a-kind event that celebrates the role the Rahway River plays in the lives of everyone in the Rahway River watershed. “Like all things Rahway, the Rahway RiverFest is a unique collection of arts and culture created and presented by the community to celebrate one of its most notable natural elements,” stated Mayor Giacobbe.

Rahway RiverFest will begin the week with a Big Community Cleanup in downtown Rahway and kick-off party at the Watershed Learning Center at 337 East Milton Avenue on Saturday, August 21st. The festivities will continue with a Lantern Float at the lake in Rahway River Park, yoga and story-time along the Rahway River, eco-crafts for kids, a showing of the camp movie classic The Creature From the Black Lagoon, live music, a canoe and kayak race at the Rahway Yacht Club, and much more. In addition, exhibits featuring environmentally themed artwork will be shown at locations throughout the city.
