February Events at the Clark Public Library

Be sure to visit the library to enjoy these free events for people of all ages.

Leap Into Science Family Workshop on Saturday, February 2 at 11:00 a.m.
Leap Into Science is a program from The Franklin Institute Science Museum that integrates open-ended science activities with children’s books, for children and families to learn together. Explore the science of Balance through hands-on activities and children’s books. Have fun while learning to think like scientists! This event is for families with preschoolers through elementary school. Registration is requested.

Chess Club for Kids on Monday, February 4 and Tuesday, February 19 at 6:30 p.m.
Children ages 6 and up are invited to come to the library for chess club!  We welcome beginners and those wanting to learn new tips on wanting to hone their skills. Registration is requested.

Instant Pot Demonstration on Thursday, February 7 at 6:30 p.m.
The Instant Pot is an electric pressure cooker that has become wildly popular with home cooks and chefs. We will take the mystery out of this time-saving kitchen tool with 2 live demonstrations given by Valerie Gray, author of the blog From Val’s Kitchen. Space is limited and registration is required. Please be conscious of any food allergies that you have.

LEGO® Club on Friday, February 8 at 3:15 p.m.
Join us for the LEGO® Club at the Clark Public Library! Create your own lego structures. Legos are provided by the library. Creations are displayed in the Children’s Area. For children in grades K – 5. No registration required.

Union County Division on Aging Services on Monday, February 11 from 10 a.m.-Noon
Do you have a questions about services for seniors or their caregivers? The Union County Division on Aging will be at the Clark Public Library to answer them. Drop by anytime between 10 a.m.-12p.m. and get answers to your questions about: pharmaceutical assistance, home energy assistance, home care, home delivered or congregate meals, caregiver relief, medicaid, transportation, and other questions you may have.

Glass Bottle Decoration for Valentine’s Day Craft for Adults on Monday, February 11 at 2:00 p.m.
We will be making Valentine’s Day decoration with wine bottles. We will paint the bottles and decorate with cute hearts, letters and/or ribbons. Materials are provided, but you can bring your own clear bottles.

George Washington Remembers New Jersey on Monday, February 11 at 7:00 p.m.
George Washington was no stranger to New Jersey. From Trenton to Princeton to Morristown to Monmouth to Middlebrook, (and more), the General spent more time here than in any other state. Join General Washington (historical interpreter and storyteller David Emerson) as he reminisces about his brightest and darkest moments during the battles and encampments of the “Cockpit of the Revolution.” This program is funded by the New Jersey Council for the Humanities. 

Tinker Tuesday on Tuesday, February 12 at 3:30 p.m.
To celebrate Valentine’s Day, we will be making heart shaped squishees. For elementary students. Please register.

Valentine Teen Maker Program on Wednesday, February 13 at 3:00 p.m.
Join us for our monthly teen maker program. February’s theme is Valentine’s Day. We will be making perler bead valentine’s, decorative paper hearts, and chocolate! Registration not required. Drop in anytime during the program! Open to all in Grades 6-12.

Finger Painting Friday on Friday, February 15 at 10:00 a.m.
No childhood is complete without some good, old-fashioned, messy finger painting. We will read a story and then make some squishy, colorful creations. Wear some old clothes! Please register.

Afternoon Book Club on Tuesday, February 19 at 1:00 p.m.
Join us for our next meeting. We will be discussing “The Story of Arthur Truluv” by Elizabeth Berg.

Learn How to Bullet Journal on Thursday, February 21 at 7:00 p.m.
The Bullet Journal class is a basic introduction to organizing your life and time through the use of bullet journaling. For adults. Registration is required.

Lead Exposure Prevention Program Saturday, February 23 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00
Clark Township Health Department in collaboration with JFK Medical Center’s Union County Childhood Lead Exposure Prevention Program is offering free lead screenings for uninsured and under-insured children ages 1-17 years old living in Union County. CoderDojo on Saturday, February 23 at 2:00 p.m.
CoderDojo is a free programming workshop. Our goal is to help kids understand how to code and teach them to love coding. This event is for children ages 9 – 14 years old. For more information about CoderDojo, please visit coderdojo.com/about/.

Annual Take Your Child to the Library Day on Sunday, February 24!

Unique Creatures show at 2:00 p.m. Ice Cream Sundaes after the show!
Bring your child to the library for our annual event! Each child that checks out a book will get a raffle ticket for a chance to win a $25 Barnes & Noble gift card! At the Unique Creatures show, we will get to meet 6 real, live animals. Please register for this family event so we can ensure the optimal animals for the crowd size. After meeting the animals, the Friends of the Clark Library will be providing ice cream sundaes for the children.

Dr. Seuss Birthday Party on Friday, March 1 at 3:30 p.m.
Celebrate Read Across America at a birthday party for Dr. Seuss!  We will have stories, a short movie, and a birthday cake sponsored by the Friends of the Clark Library.

Storytimes continue through February 21
Tales for Tots on Mondays  at 10 a.m. or 11 a.m. and Thursdays at 10 a.m.
Stories, finger plays, and songs for active listeners. Geared toward ages 2-3 with a caregiver. Older children are welcome! 30 minutes of open play follows.

Baby Bookworms on Tuesdays at 10 a.m.
Stories, songs, nursery rhymes, and movement. Geared toward babies and toddlers under 2 years old with caregiver. 30 minutes of open play follows.

Stories & More on Thursdays at 1:30 p.m.
Stories, movement, songs and a craft for active listeners ages 3 -5 years old. Registration is requested.

Grown-Up Coloring Club meets on most Fridays 1:00 p.m.
Coloring isn’t just for kids anymore!  Join us for a relaxing afternoon of coloring for grown ups. Relieve some stress while stimulating your creativity! No registration is required.
