Fanwood’s Arbor Day Event Takes Place Under the Sun

The delayed Arbor Day observance took place Thursday, May 2, 2019, with presentations by the Park Middle School Environmental Club and free tree seedlings. Shade Tree Commission Chairman Steve Falco led the proceedings once again, unveiling the Tree City USA flag with a little help from his friends. It’s the 26th consecutive year Fanwood has earned this certification for the town’s efforts at tree conservation, planting and education. Councilwoman Kathy Mitchell read a proclamation and Nature Center caretaker Dean Talcott read poetry. The kids from Park demonstrated the correct way to mulch a tree (make a donut, not a volcano) and reminded everyone that the Emerald Ash Tree Borer is still menacing our ash trees.
