Fanwood Tree City USA Designation

Borough of Fanwood

Fanwood has once again been certified in the Tree City USA program for its continued care of trees, planting new trees and educational programs. The Tree City USA flag was unfurled at a Arbor Day celebration held on April 29th in Carriage House Park.

The Arbor Day program, sponsored by the Fanwood Shade Tree Commission, encourages environmental awareness and conservation. Students from the Nettingham Middle School Environmental Club read a poem about trees and gave out Pine Oak and Dogwood tree seedlings. Commission co-chair Joann Muoio led the ceremonies.

Councilwoman Kathy Mitchell read the Arbor Day proclamation, signed by Mayor Colleen Mahr. Fanwood’s Master Tree Steward Dean Talcott did a presentation about the parts of a tree. Public Works employee Austin Louise demonstrated the DPW’s bucket truck by rescuing a piñata from a high up in a tree, then distributing the candy to the kids below. Cookies were on hand for the kids.
