Fall Book Sale a Success

Submitted by Marcy Lechner

The 8th Annual Children and Teen book sale hosted by the Friends of the Westfield Memorial Library was a big hit this year. The sale generated almost 2,900, all of which will go toward funding programs at the Library. The wonderful selection of books and media created a great place for readers to shop thanks to the community’s generous donations.

The sale began on Halloween and to begin the holiday festivities, a librarian visited our Story Time Corner and read Halloween stories to our youngest readers. In addition, children visiting the sale in costume were permitted to choose a free book to take home. Throughout the sale, volunteers read to children in our Story Time Corner, providing parents and guardians time to shop at their leisure.

A heartfelt thank you to the thirty-five volunteers who truly made the book sale happen. Their efforts were appreciated by the sale organizers and by the parents and children who used the talents of the volunteers to help them find exactly what they were looking for, from a favorite board book to a Caldecott or Newbery award-winning classic. We look forward to their dedication and energy during the spring sale scheduled for April 24 – May 4, 2019. A special thank you goes out to the Board of Education and the Westfield Public Library for their logistical support and Trader Joe’s for their donations for Bag Day.
