(above l-r) EMS Council of New Jersey (EMSCNJ) 2nd District Vice President Dan Sullivan congratulates Scotch Plains Rescue Squad members David Lugara, who recently won a cadet scholarship from the organization, and Patty Buckridee, who accepted the Gail Lawrence Scholarship for her daughter, Karolyn Buckridee, a member of the Scotch Plains and Fanwood rescue squads. Other area Gail Lawrence Scholarship winners are: Brian Dowing, Scotch Plains and Fanwood. The $500 cadet scholarship is for graduating high school students who are cadet and/or junior members of EMSCNJ squads, and who plan to pursue college-level degrees. The $1,000 Gail Lawrence Scholarship is awarded to EMSCNJ-affiliated volunteers earning advanced degrees in any medical field. The grant was established in memory of Lawrence, a mobile intensive care nurse, advanced practice nurse and educator with Rutgers University. The 88-yearold nonprofit EMSCNJ represents 20,000 EMS volunteers affiliated with nearly 300 rescue squads throughout the state. Photo by Sylvie Mulvaney/EMSCNJ
