Hanson Park Named to “Garden State Gardens”
Submitted by Linda Livelli
Hanson Park Conservancy is proud to announce that Hanson Park, located at 38 Springfield Avenue Cranford, NJ is now included among the 28 parks listed in “Garden State Gardens”, a Consortium of New Jersey’s Public Gardens.
Garden State Gardens strives to increase the public’s awareness and appreciation for the beauty and horticultural, educational, artistic and historic value of New Jersey’s public gardens.
Michael Gross, Secretary of the GSG Consortium, recently took a walk-through Hanson Park with Trustee Ann Beams. Mike saw our Black Gum Tree (Nyssa sylvatica) also known as a Pepperidge Tree. Michael got in touch with Joseph Bennett, Assistant Forester of the NJ Big Tree Conservation and Education Program for the NJ Forest Program in Trenton. Joseph will be coming to Hanson Park to measure and evaluate our Black Gum.
The GSG consortium meets a few times a year and the next meeting is in October. We look forward to HPC’s participation in this group.
