Cranford DAR Volunteer at Veterans Center

Submitted by Mary Leonard

The Volunteer Service to Veterans Committee of the Crane’s Ford chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution visited hospitalized veterans at the VA Lyons Medical Center in Bernard Township on November 10, 2018. With donations of gift cards from Costco, ShopRite, Stop & Shop and Wegmans, the DAR was able to purchase snacks and drinks for the veterans.

DAR Veteran Committee chairwoman Alice Birtwistle of Bayonne and Chapter Regent Mary Leonard of Roselle Park planned and organized the afternoon. The following daughters of a member joined in helping the DAR: Rachel Birtwistle, Jessica Birtwistle, and Miranda Birtwistle. The Crane’s Ford DAR has been volunteering with annual parties for the VA Lyons facility veterans for over 40 years.

The Daughters of the American Revolution is a national service organization of women who can prove ancestry back to participants of the American Revolution War, both in combat and those who provided goods and services to the American cause.
