Cranford BSA Troop 80 – Washington DC Trip
Submitted by Kieran Geraghty
On March 8, 2024, Cranford Boy Scout Troop 80 embarked on a three-day trip to Washington, DC to learn about American history and the functions of the US government. The Scouts visited various locations throughout DC and Virginia, such as the Pentagon, the Washington Monument, The Capitol, and the White House, as well as multiple museums throughout D.C.
Scouts also participated in a ghost tour in Lafayette Square and were able to learn more about the culture of D.C. during early America. However, the most fun came from the Troop’s trip to the National Spy Museum, a museum that documented the trade, history, and the role of espionage throughout American history. The museum was full of interactive and informative exhibits covering the topic and brought great fun to the scouts. Star Scout Theodore Geraghty said, “I like how the Spy Museum interacted with visitors. A lot of times in museums there are just plaques with a small description, but with the Spy Museum it made you feel like you were actually experiencing the museum and made it way more fun.”
Scouts who went on the trip ranged from 6th grade to 10th grade and they had a great opportunity to learn more about our country, as well as see some of the most famous monuments in the United States. More importantly, however, they had fun.
