The Cranford Police Department is proud to announce it will be hosting the Ninth Annual Cranford Police Youth Academy this summer.
The Academy will begin Monday, July 13th and conclude Friday, July 17th .with a graduation ceremony. Classes are run daily from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and involve a combination of lectures, interactive presentations and hands on skills performance. This law enforcement educational experience is for students graduating grades 6-8.
The primary goal of the Cranford Police Youth Academy is to encourage open communication between the youth of Cranford and members of the Cranford Police Department. The program gives Cranford youth the opportunity to see multiple aspects of the Cranford Police Department and to meet the officers that patrol their neighborhoods. Past academy classes learned about police patrol practices, criminal investigations, traffic enforcement and physical fitness. Attendees witnessed demonstrations by the Union County Sheriff’s Department, the NJ Transit Police Department, the Union County Emergency Response Team and the NJSP NorthStar Medevac Helicopter team.
Applications for the Cranford Police Department Youth Academy can be found on the department website, www.cranford.com/police. The deadline for applications is Friday, May 22nd at 3:00 p.m. There is a $60 registration fee that includes the cost of a uniform, cap and water bottle.
