Coach Charles Fernicola Championship Day

Mountainside Youth Baseball

The Coach Chuck Fernicola Championship Day was held on Friday, June 11, 2021. The event started at 4 p.m. with team and individual pictures and games scheduled from 4-9 p.m. The a ceremony to honor Coach Fernicola was held at 5 p.m. to honor Coach Fernicola, to cllose out the spring rec season, and to also present awards.

Coach Fernicola dedicated over 53 years of his life volunteering for Mountainside Youth Baseball. He was a coach for the Blue Stars and All-Star Team and also a MSBL Board Member. In honor of Coach Fernicola, we have placed a monument as another angel in the outfield by the flag that he proudly raised at every Opening Day. It sits under the new flag that was replaced today in his honor. We also put a memorial “bucket” with a plaque in the home dugout of the Major League Field representing the exact spot he sat on his ball bucket to coach his team. On this day, we also retired the Blue Stars since no one will ever be able to fill his shoes. We proudly hang the last Blue Star Jersey to remain on the snack shack for all players, coaches, and fans to remember the legacy of the one and only Coach Chuck Fernicola.

The first pitch was thrown out by Jason Guidicipietro, a former BlueStar and now Board Member of MSBL along with Coach Ferniclola’s two daughters Lisa and Lori and Mr. Ferniolca’s girlfriend Joyce. Eric Cantagallo, former Bluestar and now Board Member of MSBL caught the ball.

The awards presented included: The Hustle Award, Scott Burdge Memorial Sportsmanship Awards, Ryan Faella Memorial Sportsmanship Awards, BJ Giannone Memorial Sportsmanship Award, Frank Harpster Memorial Award, and The Chuck Fernicola Board Member Award
