First Steps to Reduce Energy Across All Facilities

Clark Reduces Energy Across All Facilities

Township of Clark

In partnership with the Clark Board of Education, the Township of Clark, launched a comprehensive effort to reduce energy costs at all facilities. By taking advantage of the State of New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program, the Township and the School Board were able to engage professionals to conduct an energy audit and to identify ways of reducing costs and taking advantage of grants.

“Given the cost of energy and the availability of both federal and state grant money the time to take advantage of this opportunity to reduce costs is clear”, said Clark Township Mayor, Sal Bonaccorso. “By conducting audits across all of our buildings we will not only identify ways of reducing costs, but we have the potential of also being able to earn revenue through the state’s solar program.”

Through the Mayor’s office, the Township was able to bring professional auditors and simultaneously was able to develop an outline of potential solar energy production opportunities. “This could allow third-parties to develop solar, while providing even lower energy costs and potentially lease revenue to both the schools and the Township” as stated by Township Business Administrator Jim Ulrich.

“The combination of reducing energy use, installing better controls, and strengthening the building envelopes, will help save money and also produce a better environment for Clark’s residents, employees, teachers, administrators, and of course our most important asset our students”, concluded Mayor Bonaccorso.

Over the next 90 days, the audits will be complete and various recommendations will be moving forward for consideration. The recommendations will include the various energy conservation measures, potential cost savings, carbon and greenhouse gas savings, and revenue projections based on the potential for the solar development throughout the various properties.
