Clark Public Library announces October Events

Clark Library October 2021 

The library is now open during normal, pre-pandemic hours! Masks are optional for vaccinated individuals. 

The library will be closed on Monday, October 11 for Columbus Day.

All children’s events will be outdoor, virtual, or hybrid until further notice. Please register for any progra.m.s by emailing reference@clarklibrary.org and state which progra.m. you would like to attend or through the online calendar on our website at clarklibrary.org.

Stories & More on Fridays October 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29 at 10:00 a.m.

Join us outdoors behind the library for stories, songs, and rhymes. A take-home craft will be provided.  If it rains, this event will be virtual. This progra.m. is designed for children ages 3 and up. Registration is required.

Tales for Tots on Mondays, October 4, 18, 25 at 10:00 a.m.

Stories, fingerplays, and songs for active listeners. Geared toward ages 2-3 with a caregiver. Older children are welcome! Event will be held outdoors behind the library. In case of rain, everyone may attend virtually. Registration is required. 

Chess Club for Kids on Mondays, October 4 and 18 at 6:30 p.m.

Children ages 6 and up are invited to come to the library for chess club! We welcome beginners and those wanting to learn new tips or wanting to hone their skills. We will be meeting outside, weather permitting. Registration is requested.

Baby Bookworms on Tuesdays, October 5, 12, 19, and 26 at 10:00 a.m.

Babies and toddlers are invited to listen to some books, and learn some songs, rhymes, lap bounces, and fingerplays! The event will be held outside behind the library. In case of rain, the event will be virtual.

Afternoon Book Club on October 5 at 1:00 p.m.

Join us for our next afternoon book club meeting. We’ll be discussing “I See You” by Clare Mackintosh. Please speak with a librarian or email reference@clarklibrary.org if you need a copy of the book.

Krafty Kids on Wednesdays, October 6 and 27 at 3:30 p.m.

Join us as we make some fun and creative artwork. Using a few art supplies we will make a new craft each week! Don’t forget to bring your imagination and creativity! Program will be held outdoors behind the library for ages 5 and up.

Little Scientists on Thursday, October 7 and 21 at 4:00 p.m.

Learn how to build and create with our DIY Maker Kits! Each session will be a different Maker Kit that will touch upon a different STEM skill. Program will be held outdoors behind the library for ages 5 and up.

[Virtual] Teen Drawing Workshop with artist Doug Baron on October 7 at 7:00 p.m.

Join artist Doug Baron over Zoom as he teaches you how to draw cartoon and halloween-themed figures. Open to Grades 5-12. 

[Virtual] Adult Coloring Club on Friday, October 8 & October 29 at 11:00 a.m.

Coloring is a great way to unwind and relieve some stress! Pick up coloring sheets and crayons at the library or use your own and meet up on Zoom for some soothing music and relaxation.

[Virtual] Pajama Time on Wednesday, October 13 at 7:00 p.m.

Join us in your pj’s for an evening storytime session for the family on Zoom. Please register to get the Zoom link.

Telescope Night with Pearl Observatory on Thursday, October 14 at 7:00 p.m.

See mountains, valleys, and craters of our moon. View the clouds and moons of Jupiter. See Saturn and its rings and other wonders of our universe with Pearl Observatory!  For ages 5 and up. Please register. Rain/cloud date is Nov 8. Program will be held behind the library.

[Adult] The Crafty Folks on Friday, October 15 at 3:30 p.m. or Thursday, October 21 at 7:00p.m.

Make an adorable toilet roll fabric pumpkin to decorate for the Autumn season! 

Read to Sophie on Saturday, October 16 at 10:00 a.m., 10:15 a.m., 10:30 a.m., or 10:45 a.m.                        

If you have a young, reluctant or struggling reader, we want you to meet Sophie!  Sophie is a therapy dog that will be a non-judgmental listener and furry friend to read to that won’t laugh if they make a mistake or stumble over a word. Children learn to associate reading with being with the dog and begin to view reading in a positive way. Over time, the child’s reading ability and confidence can improve because they are practicing their skills.  Children will each get approximately 15 minutes of reading time with Sophie. Please register for a time slot. This event will be held outdoors.

Paint a Pumpkin for Kids on Tuesday, October 19, or Wednesday, October 20 at 4:00 p.m.

Join us for our annual Paint a Pumpkin event outdoors! Listen to a story about pumpkins and then paint a mini pumpkin to take home with you. This program is for ages 3 – grade 5. Registration is required. Clark residents get priority registration. Non-residents will be placed on the waitlist until it is determined there is room. Please wear old clothes, as we will be working with paint. This program is offered twice, please register for just one.

New Jersey Paranormal on October 19 at 7:00 p.m.

Join members of New Jersey Paranormal as they share their experiences as paranormal investigators. Learn about local legends and hauntings. A questions & answer period will follow the presentation.

[Virtual] Halloween Bingo for Kids on Monday, October 25 at 3:30 p.m.

Join us via Zoom for a free Halloween themed Bingo! We will play at least 3 rounds! Prizes for the round winners and 2 runners up. For MURAL cardholders and Union County residents only. Prizes will not be mailed.

Comic Book Club for Adults on October 25 at 7:30 p.m.

The Adult Comic Book Club will be discussing a different type of comic genre every five weeks. Join us in person or via Zoom to discuss what comic you read recently. Since our first meeting is in October we will be discussing our favorite horror themed comics. This program is for 18 and over.

Teen Tuesday: Cricut Halloween Mugs on October 26 at 3:00 p.m.

Learn about our Cricut machine as we design and print Halloween decals to apply to ceramic mugs. Please register in advance as supplies are limited. Open to teens in Grades 6-12. 

Who Was Book Club on Tuesday, October 26 at 4:00 p.m.

Kids who enjoy reading the Who Was series or like learning about interesting people are invited to join us outside for our Who Was…Book Club!  Each month we will read a book from this fun series focusing on a particular type of person, such as inventor, athlete, musician, etc, and then come together to discuss and share what we have learned and do a related activity. This month choose any person to read about!

[Adult & Teen] Halloween Trivia on October 27 at 7:00p.m. 

Test your knowledge of all things Halloween, from horror movies to monsters, to spooky books! A Zoom meeting link will be emailed after you register.

Tinker Tots on Thursday, October 28 at 10:00 a.m.

Come join us for a morning of fun science activities perfect for little ones. Event will be held outside.  In case of rain, we will reschedule. For children ages pre-k and younger. Please register.

Lego Club on Thursday, October 28 at 4:00 p.m.

Join us for the LEGO® Club at the Clark Public Library! Create your own LEGO®  structures. LEGO®  are provided by the library. Creations are displayed in the Children’s Area. For children in grades K – 5. Event will be held outdoors.

The Five-Week Book Club on Thursday, October 28 at 7:00 p.m.

Welcome to our new non-fiction and historical fiction book group!

We’ll meet approximately every five weeks. This evening we will be discussing The Devil in the White City: murder, magic, and madness at the fair that changed America by Erik Larson

Boredom Buster for Kids
