Chelsea “Lace Race” Campaign Raises $32,000 For Alzheimer’s New Jersey

Following a fundraising campaign culminating in a walk through Thompson Park in Jamesburg, Chelsea Senior Living raised more than $32,000 for Alzheimer’s New Jersey.
All 13 of Chelsea’s New Jersey senior living communities held fundraising activities during September and October towards a goal of raising $1,000 each. The Chelsea at Warren raised money individually with a wine tasting event. Those efforts plus other donations and a match from Chelsea corporate brought the total to at least $32,000 and more donations are still being counted.
For the first time, Chelsea Senior Living sponsored its own Alzheimer’s walk, dubbed the “Lace Race”, on Sunday, October 23, 2016, held in Thompson Park, Jamesburg. Participants included employees and their families, Chelsea residents and their families and other supporters. Speakers included several Chelsea employees who have, or had, family members suffering from Alzheimer’s.
Joanne Prospero, Executive Director of The Chelsea at Manalapan, spoke tearfully about her mother whom she cared for as the director of the dementia area of another Chelsea community.
“I could see my mother’s decline every day,” she told the approximately 100 participants during opening ceremonies.
“Today I walk in memory of my grandmother Charlotte and all the residents who I have cared for over the years who have enriched my life so much with laughter and joyous memories,” said Raquel Miller, director of the dementia area of the Chelsea at Toms River.
