Chatham BSA Troops 8 and 280 Hold Annual Klondike Derby

Chatham BSA Klondike Derby

BSA held its annual Klondike Derby at the Mt. Allamuchy Scout Reservation in March, providing Scouts the opportunity to compete in teams and showcase scoutcraft skills and leadership ability.  Scouts tackled a series of stations on fire-building, cooking, shelter-building, and scout lore, among other skills.  Troops from all over entered teams into senior and junior divisions, but the talented scouts from Chatham Troop 8 and Troop 280 came home with half of the awards.

Together, Troop 8 and Troop 280 fielded 9 of the 36 sled teams that competed.  Troop 8 won first and third place in the senior division, and 4thand 5th place in the junior division.  Troop 280 won first place in the junior division and fifth place in the senior division, their first year competing in the senior division.

Troop 8 has a storied 105-year history in Chatham, with nearly 70 active Boy Scouts operating out of Odgen Memorial Presbyterian Church. Troop 280 is a growing and active all-girl troop of 40 Scouts, founded in 2019 and chartered at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.  For information, email bstroop8@gmail.com or troop280Chatham@gmail.com.
