Chamber Spearheads “Please Shop Local” Program

The Berkeley Heights Business Community is in its second year of hosting regular monthly breakfast networking meetings. The group is part of the Suburban Chamber of Commerce but has focused on the interests of Berkeley Heights. Part of the focus is the introduction of a “Please Shop Local” program. The program was an agenda item at the November 2017 meeting in preparation of the Holiday Season.
The meeting was hosted by the Superintendent of Berkeley Heights Public Schools who showcased the Governor Livingston High School String Quartet. The quartet, supervised by orchestra Director Kate Connolly, played for the approximately four dozen attendees before the meeting got under way.
The “Please Shop Local” gift certificate program was launched just in time for the holiday season. Dr Patrick Smith, Vice Chairman of the Suburban Chamber of Commerce representing BH, explained the program, “It’s really simple, stop into Smith Chiropractic or DERCO Print and ask for a BH Gift Certificate for whatever amount you would like ($25, $50, $100, ect.), write a check and we give you the certificate in our new “Please Shop Local” gift bag with simple instructions including a list of participating BH businesses. Whoever receives the certificate goes to their favorite BH business on the list and uses it just like a check, the business accepts it, gives change if needed, and that’s it. The funds are held and issued by Investors Bank Berkeley Heights and 100% of the gift check amount stays and helps support our community!”
The Chamber of Commerce receives no fee as this is a free community service. So “Please Shop Local” this holiday season. Shop, eat, drink and enjoy beautiful downtown Berkeley Heights!
