Student Leaders Host Fundraiser for SRAS
Warren Township Schools
Student Leaders from Central School’s fourth and fifth grades recently organized and executed a successful fundraiser for the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter (SRAS). Over five school days, the event pulled in over 650 much-needed supplies from the Central School Community.
According to Ms. Pech, who oversees the Student Leaders, “The students chose to organize their first fundraiser of the year for the animal shelter because it is an organization that they all care a lot about.”
To increase participation, Student Leaders implemented an incentive program allowing students the opportunity to earn extra recess time. To earn points the students dressed up as animals, donated items for the shelter, and participated in animal-themed games. Mrs. Christina Tommaso’s second-grade class earned 50 points for winning the “Guess the Number of Dog Treats” game. In the end, the fifth graders swept the competition by donating over 250 items, and in return, they all enjoyed extra recess time.
The fundraiser was driven by the students’ desire to help. “I love how as a Student Leader, I was able to count the donations every day. Another part of this fundraiser I loved was that the grade levels were competing for extra recess, so we got even more donations since everyone wanted to win!” said fifth-grader Sydney Ullrich.
