BSA Troop 17 campout at Gettysburg
BSA Troop 17
A very large group of Scouts from BSA Troop 17 embarked on a 2- night campout in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania the first weekend in May. This historic trip is one that the Troop does once every two years and has the option for Scouts to earn a medal and awards depending on the hikes and activities they do while on the campout.
On this campout the Scouts hiked the Johnny Reb Trail and the Historical Trail around the battlegrounds from the Civil War in Gettysburg and got to see many memorials and historical sites. Scouts also visited the Eisenhower House, another historical landmark in the area. Lastly the Scouts went to the Gettysburg visitor center and watched a movie about the Civil War, saw a famous 360 degree painting, and walked the museum seeing thousands of artifacts and learning more about history.
Overall, the Gettysburg trip was extremely educational and fun for all Scouts who went. All are encouraged to go on the campout in future years.
Troop 17 meets on Thursday nights at St. Rose of Lima in Short Hills and is accepting new members for the upcoming Scouting year. Please visit Troop17ShortHills.com to learn more.
