Brookside Place School Announces Winner in “Souper” Bowl 2019

The Los Angeles Rams may have lost by 10 in the lowest scoring Super Bowl in history, but they won by a landslide in the Brookside Place School “Souper” Bowl. During the week leading up to Super Bowl LIII, students were able to donate cans of soup in honor of their preferred team, either the New England Patriots or the Los Angeles Rams. By Friday afternoon, 447 cans had been contributed with 299 donated in the name of the Rams and 148 in honor of the Patriots. All donations benefited Cranford Family Care, a non-profit organization that offers temporary emergency assistance to qualified residents. The Brookside Place School “Souper” Bowl is an annual event coordinated by the Brookside Student Council.

“This is a wonderful school tradition that adds an element of community service to one of the most popular sporting and cultural events each calendar year,” said Brookside Place School Principal Mr. Michael Klimko. “The students are always enthusiastic about supporting their favorite Super Bowl team and announcing the final total of collected cans is always met with cheers. The Souper Bowl is also a great example of kindness in our school community. Kindness is the character trait we study during the month of February with various initiatives from book studies to kindness challenges in the classroom.”

Brookside Place School is an elementary school serving students in kindergarten through grade five. For more information on BPS, please visit the Cranford Board of Education website at cranfordschools.org.
