Boy Scout Troop 25 Madison Annual Cabin Camp

Submitted by Ruth Deane

Boy Scout Troop 25 from Madison, New Jersey, held their annual cabin camp out at Winnebago Scout Reservation last month. This annual camp out is popular with the scouts and is a big recruiting week end for the Troop too. Potential Boy Scouts from Cub Scout Packs in Madison, Harding Township, Florham Park, and Morristown all braved the cold to sample a taste of what Boy Scouts is all about.
The scouts hiked to nearby lakes and saw the resident beaver dams; had a fire-building competition; played games in the cabin as well as the obligatory man-hunt, a favorite with the Troop 25 Scouts. The week-end was not only about having fun, but also learning important scouting skills such as map reading and orienteering.
And do not forget about the food. Scoutmaster Wayne Dieckmann warned scouts to come hungry in anticipation of Assistant Scoutmaster John Dew and Bill Daniel’s and Scouts famous gourmet cooking.
Despite the cold weather affecting car locks, the group returned home after doing their traditional “circle up” with “roses, thorns, and buds” from each person who attended. From the smiles on the scouts faces and the stories told at the following Monday meeting, it sounds like a great time was had by all.
Troop 25 meets on Mondays, 7:30 p.m., at the Presbyterian Church on 19 Green Avenue, Madison, New Jersey. Please contact Wayne Dieckmann at waynexk120@optonlinenet for information on the Troop.
