Boy Scout Participate In Annual Klondike Derby

Submitted by Lesley Duncan

The Annual Klondike Derby was held at Watchung Reservation on January 30, 2016. The Klondike Derby is a competition among troops in the scouting districts of Watchung Mountain and Sussex (Patriots’ Path Council). Boy Scout patrols drag Klondike sledges over predetermined routes, demonstrating their scouting skills including compass and orienteering, lashing and knots, first aid, fire building, nature and wilderness survival, camp preparation, and team building. As you can see from the photos, the boys had a great time.
