Girl Scouts Complete Beautification Project

A group of eighth grade Girl Scouts at Columbia Middle School (CMS) have been working on a girls empowerment and beautification project since last year. Their goal is to spread kindness and positive messages at CMS, while sprucing up the décor of the bathrooms.

A unique idea, the girls thought by decorating the bathroom stall doors with positive messaging they would be able to promote kindness and lift spirits.

Working towards their Silver Award with their scout leader, Mrs. Leahey, the girls approached CMS Assistant Principal Mrs. Grace Acosta who immediately set things in motion.

Mrs. Acosta shared, “I thought this would be a wonderful project at CMS to help encourage the young ladies that attend our school and to help spread anti-bullying messages.”

Originally self-funded through a series of after-school cake and cookie sales, when it became clear that more funds were needed to complete the project the Columbia Staff and Teachers promoted a “pay to dress-down” day at the middle school to keep the effort going.

Congratulations to eighth graders Melanie Leahey, Bree Kleinberg, Leah Brogden, and Honora Rosengarten for giving the girls at the middle school a lounge type retreat with positive messaging.
