“Be the One” Campaign for Veterans on Display in Clark Library

“Be the One” Campaign for Veterans

Clark American Legion Auxiliary

November is Veterans Month. On November 11, Clark honors and remembers its Veterans at a ceremony on the grounds of Johnson High School. Clark has many Veterans spanning a long time starting from the Revolutionary War. These people were willing to sacrifice their lives for the good of their country.

This November the American Legion Auxiliary honors Clark’s many veterans with artifacts and information about veterans in the Clark Library. The many items on display have been donated by veterans and their families to the Veterans of Foreign War Post and the American Legion Post. The items include souvenirs, equipment, and uniforms worn by our local veterans. Families of Veterans are proud of the service their family members have completed. The Clark community is proud of these Veterans. Many families who do not have family members involved in the military may not realize what military service includes. The Auxiliary invites the community to visit the library and learn some facts about military life, and view items used by soldiers and sailors and air force in the course of their duty.

The National American Legion has a 2022 campaign called “Be The One”. This campaign asks us to help veterans re-enter their community with a welcome smile. Other suggestions to help in this adjustment process are simple but effective. Be the one that extends a handshake to a veteran. Be the one to listen to their story. Be the one to offer support and lend a hand to veterans. But most importantly, “BE THE ONE” to say Thank You for your service. These actions and genuine interest in a veteran’s well-being send the message that millions of people are ready to help and the community cares.

In addition to this library display, there will be a showing of the film documentary “Every Day is a Holiday” on Monday, November 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the library. The film tells the story of Paul Loong, a Clark physician, and his struggle to survive a POW camp in Japan. The film is directed by Theresa Loong, his daughter, who will be joining us at the library for the film’s showing.

The Clark American Legion Auxiliary is a service organization dedicated to serving Veterans and their families. We encourage the local community to join us in welcoming and serving our veterans every day with a smile.
