Anne LaHoff, a former dance teacher who once danced with Fred Astaire, celebrated her 101st birthday at The Chelsea at Warren surrounded by friends and family, on Wednesday, August 16, 2017.
Warren Mayor Carolann Garafola read a proclamation honoring Mrs. LaHoff and naming August 16th Ann LaHoff day in Warren.
Mrs. LaHoff, who was born in Jersey City and later moved to North Arlington, was a career employee of RCA in Harrison where she supervised the manufacture of vacuum tubes. The highlight of her second career as a ballroom dance instructor came in 1949 when she won the Viennese Waltz portion of the Harvest Moon Dance competition in New York. The prize was a dance with legendary performer Fred Astaire. “Fred Astaire was a good dancer,” recalled Mrs. LaHoff, “but not as good as my husband.”
Mrs. LaHoff was joined at her Chelsea birthday party by her many Chelsea friends, her nephew Michael Miller of Oradell and his wife Elaine.
