Eighteen Watchung Hills Regional High School (WHRHS) student athletes who competed in sports at WHRHS have recently signed to play sports in college: Four at Division I schools, one at a Division II school, and 13 at Division III schools, according to WHRHS Athletic Director Christopher Van Vliet.
Many of the students who declared on April 30, 2018, gathered in the school’s Media Center after school, to be photographed as a group, as well as in combinations by sport, with their families, and with coaches.
In addition to these 18, another group of students who intend to play sports at Division I and Division II schools announced their signings on Nov. 27, 2017. And in February, WHRHS student athlete Zahveae Thorne declared he planned to attend and play Football at East Stroudsburg University, East Stroudsburg, Pa., a Division II school.
In November 2017 as well as on April 30, 2018, Van Vliet congratulated the seniors as they announced their plans to play college sports.
“We are very proud of you,” Van Vliet said. “We wish you the best in the next chapter of your lives.”
Van Vliet also congratulated the coaches and parents who gathered in the Media Center to witness the college athletic announcement, and to all who supported WHRHS student athletes throughout the year. “Go Warriors,” he said.
