ALJ High School Named National School of Character
Arthur L. Johnson High School in Clark was recently named a 2020 National School of Character by Character.org.
National certification is the highest level of distinction bestowed by Character.org. Schools receiving this designation have demonstrated excellence in establishing a school culture that exemplifies and brings to life The 11 Principles Framework for Schools: A Guide to Cultivating a Culture of Character.
Edward Bucior, Assistant Principal of ALJ, stated, “Collectively as a school community, we promote and instill positive core values for our students. We have the best students, teachers, parents, and community! Our stakeholders are fully invested in creating upstanding leaders within the community. There’s your “image” and then there’s your “character”. “Image” is doing the right thing when everyone is watching. “Character” is doing the right thing even when no one is watching. Both are important, but your character is what defines you! At the end of the day, character is not something you simply acquire, but rather it is something that is developed. Our students have been developed to be leaders within our building and community.”
He continued, “The Character Committee just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone that has helped ALJ get to this point. I want to thank the Board of Education and Superintendent Mr. Edward Grande for supporting ALJ throughout the process. I want to thank our teachers, students, parents, and community members for the work that they put in on a daily basis and for all of the support they gave during the application process.”
