Ananya Mandrekar Wins Poetry & Essay Contest
Millburn Township Public Schools
Congratulation to MMS 6th grader, Ananya Mandrekar who recently became the third Millburn student to be nationally recognized as a top ten winner in the Creative Communications Poetry Contest in the last four years! Ananya joins our two other top ten poets, Alex Grossman and Josh Gerstel. Ananya, who competed in last year’s Scripps National Spelling Bee, was inspired by that experience to write her winning poem.
Ananya has also learned that she is the state winner of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) essay contest. This year’s essay prompt was in honor of the 100th anniversary of the dedication of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Students were asked to imagine attending the original dedication of the memorial, and write about why it is important to remember those who gave our lives for this nation. Great job showcasing your writing skills!
