Funding Authorized for Alternative Use of Former Municipal Building

The Warren Township Committee has approved a request by the Historic Sites Committee to seek the services of an architect to develop a concept plan for the creation of a museum, cultural center, and community meeting space in the former Municipal Building.

As a result of this authorization, issued at the November 16th Township Committee meeting, the Historic Sites Committee will be seeking proposals from architects to develop concept drawings for the first floor and other work that may be required in the structure.

Committeeman Daniel Croson and Committeeman-elect Shaun Fine recently toured the building and have been working with the representatives of the Historic Sites Committee, including Chairman John Lindner and Vice Chairman Greg Fitzgerald to develop a plan.

“The Historic Sites Committee will be creating a narrative for the adaptive reuse of the building so the space can be marketed to potential users and be utilized to seek grants,” stated Lindner.

Committeeman Croson commented, “The former Nathan Hofheimer house, which served as the Municipal Building from the late 1950s to 2017, is the perfect location to preserve and display the artifacts that tell the history of Warren Township, as well as serve as a central location for members of our community to gather. In order to keep the spirit of Warren alive for future generations, we must celebrate where we’ve come from. I am grateful for the work that our Historic Sites Committee has done to get us to this point and look forward to this project moving forward.”

The Township Committee is eager to receive proposals and will coordinate next steps with the Historic Sites Committee.
