ALJ Students Attend DECA Conference
Clark Public Schools
Arthur L. Johnson High School students Maxine Guzman, Samantha Costello, and Kiara Moyano recently participated in the DECA conference at Harrah’s in Atlantic City. The students participated in a 10 page paper competition that qualified them to go to the States Conference. In this competition, the students created a start-up business plan. They had to come up with the idea for the business and creative ways to implement their plan in the real world. The group decided on creating an all-natural, personalized shampoo brand. They came up with cost structures and revenue models along with a presentation to present at the state’s event. DECA Co-Advisor and ALJ Business Teacher Ms. Julianna Fren stated, “This was a wonderful experience for the students. Schools from all over New Jersey were in attendance, so they were able to network with a ton of different students.” DECA’s mission is to prepare “emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.”
