Cranford author Lockey Maisonneuve will visit the Cranford Community Center on Tuesday, February 5, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. to share her story and discuss her memoir, A Girl Raised by Wolves, which documents her harrowing story from childhood to the present day. This program has been made possible by the Cranford Public Library.
Lockey Maisonneuve is a survivor. As a child, she lived with neglectful, alcoholic parents, and was sold into childhood prostitution by her father. As an adult, she survived breast cancer and her mother’s murder. Today, she wants readers to know that she is not only surviving, but thriving. In A Girl Raised by Wolves, she uses her life’s challenges and her sense of humor to provide lessons to support others along their healing journeys. At the Community Center, Lockey will read excerpts from her memoir and share the tools and techniques she used along her healing journey. Copies of her memoir will be available for signing.
As a certified yoga and meditation guide, Lockey offers classes for incarcerated men, people in drug and alcohol recovery, mental health patients and students in inner-city schools. Lockey’s unique experiences give her credibility to share mindfulness programs in these marginalized communities.
According to Lockey, “Healing trauma is not a one-and-done event.” In her classes and workshops, Maisonneuve incorporates her own experiences with managing flashbacks, triggers, anxiety, and rage. Her Jersey girl sarcasm, which shines through in her memoir, helps her to connect with her participants.
