Pack 182 History Hikes
Warren Cub Scouts
Pack 182 Cub Scouts, ages Kindergarten through 5th grade, enjoyed exploring several historical sites this summer. Cubmaster Christian Bellmann led his scouts and families through several hikes as well as an introduction to geocaching. Through geocaching, scouts learned about coordinates and navigation, both of which proved useful in their subsequent hikes.
The Victory Trail Hike took the group though downtown Elizabeth where they traced the steps of the Revolutionary War. This 3-mile hike was packed with historical stops at Boxwood Hall and the Caldwell Parsonage where scout leaders and parents helped bring to life the stories told in history books.
Those brave enough to venture on the 5-mile hike near Morristown joined scout leaders on another historical hike, this time through Jockey Hollow where General Washington had his winter camp. Even the youngest scouts built stamina as they made their way through summer heat and thorough history lessons along their adventure.
Scouts who completed these hikes as part of their summer time awards additionally earned medals and patches for their efforts.
Pack 182 continues to plan engaging events as they look towards a busy fall. Pack 182 welcomes siblings and families to join all their activities. Joining scouts is a fun and rewarding experience and new scouts are welcome to join at any age.
