The Summit Board of Education welcomed Yon Cho as the newest member of the Board during the remote meeting on Thursday, May 7, 2020. He will serve on the Operations and Policy Committees, and an alternate on the Communications Committee.

“Mr. Cho is a wonderful addition to our Board,” stated Donna Miller, Board of Education President. “His professional and volunteer experiences will certainly contribute to our work. His understanding of our district and the Summit community will allow him to make those contributions quickly.”

Mr. Cho has been a resident of Summit since 2000 and is very active in the community. He has been on the Board of the Summit Area YMCA since 2009; chairs the Facilities Committee and is on the Executive Committee. He also served on the Board of the Summit Educational Foundation from 2013 to 2019, and chaired the Investment Committee. Mr. Cho is also heavily involved with scouting programs in Summit, and was a soccer and baseball coach for his children when they were younger.

“Mr. Cho has stepped in seamlessly to the role and already provided valuable insight to the Board,” said Chris Bonner, Board of Education Vice President. “His depth of experience will be a tremendous asset to the Board and we are fortunate to have him.”

Mr. Cho is currently retired after more than 30 years in financial services and real estate investment management at Lehman Brothers, and at Pacific Coast Capital Partners where he managed the New York office and new investments. After graduating college, Mr. Cho proudly served four years in the United States Navy as a Surface Line Officer before starting his financial career. He has a BS in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School and an MBA from the NYU Stern School of Business.

Mr. Cho and his wife Francie have four children who all attended Summit Public Schools starting in kindergarten. Two are recent graduates of Summit High School, and two are current Summit High School students.
