Anthony “Tony” Izzo 70, of Elizabeth, N.J. Passed away on Wednesday November 13, 2019 surrounded by his loving family and friends at Trinitas Regional Medical Center, Elizabeth.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the funeral from the Corsentino Home For Funerals, 620 Second Avenue, corner of John Street, Elizabeth. Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday November 18, 2019 at 10 a.m. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet cemetery, Newark.
Tony was born on May 11,1949 to Ruth (nee Stein) and Frank Izzo. He was a lifelong resident of Elizabeth N.J. In 1968 he graduated from Edison Tech High school, Elizabeth. Then in 1969 during the Vietnam war he was drafted into the United States Army. Tony was proud to have served his Country and always said he would have enlisted in the Army if he wasn’t drafted. Tony was a Sergeant with the Army first Calvary Division. At first he was stationed in Southern Vietnam and then was sent off to Northern Vietnam where he was for 16 months. Tony was the recipient of many awards including a Bronze Star. If you knew Tony you knew he was extremely proud of his country and being a Veteran. He never missed a ceremony whether it was for Memorial Day, Veteran’s Day or a Veteran’s charity benefit. Tony previously worked for Mercury Vending Services as a service technician. Where he would be dispatched to hang outs all over New Jersey to repair juke boxes, pool tables, cigarette machines and arcade games. He loved working with his hands and doing electrical work. No matter how big or small the job was, Tony made sure it was done the right way.
Tony loved his family, friends and life itself. He never had anything bad to say about anyone and was always in a great mood. He would do anything for anyone.
Most days you would find Tony at Sacco’s Meat Market, his second home. Tony was a member of the Sons of Peterstown S.C. He was a man of great character and loved people. He was the type of person that made friends everywhere he went. He could sense a stranger was having a bad day and would be able to make them smile with a joke or a story. Tony was the best of the best and the world will be a little dimmer without him. To say he will be greatly missed is an understatement.
Tony is survived by his devoted sister Marlene Froehlich. Niece Darla Rogers. Nephews Robert and his wife Pam Coon. Frank and his wife Kara Coon and Chris Coon. Great nieces and nephews Trent and Reese Levitt. Ryan, Kasey, Aiden and Noah Coon. His extended family The Sacco’s. Also many loving relatives and friends. Tony was predeceased by his beloved parents Ruth and Frank Izzo and brother in law former Union County Sheriff Ralph Froehlich.
