“Beautiful Mountainside” Beautifies Traffic Island
Thanks to the volunteers of the grass roots beautification committee, “Beautiful Mountainside,” the traffic island at the intersection of Route 22 W and Summit Road has had a miraculous transformation.
Previously marred with weeds and litter, the unkempt triangle had seen better days. All that has changed over the course of two weekends spent in May and June with a team of dedicated Beautiful Mountainside members. One weekend was spent to prepare the triangle and one to complete the sizable landscaping with an assortment of plantings, designed by member Jessica McSulla.
Participants included Todd Evans, Alice Crowel, Bob Messler, Irene Dabrowski, Ethel Ward, Edward Markowkski, Regina Kelley, Jeffery Moran, Joel Feller, Linda Condrillo, and Carlos Gomez. The group was also delighted to have Mountainside’s mayor Paul Mirabelli join in their efforts during the planting stage and had the protection of the Mountainside Police Department at the busy intersection.
Regular maintenance of the tiny island, including watering and weeding, will be the responsibility of the committee. Beautiful Mountainside is proud to be able to contribute to keeping their town green and beautiful.
Mountainside residents interested in joining the Beautiful Mountainside committee can reach out to Todd Evans at 908-462-4366. Or join us at our monthly meetings held at the Hetfield House the first Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m.
