Union County Residents at NJ Race for the Cure

Two Union County Residents Score 1st Place Medals

at Komen North Jersey Race for the Cure 

Two Union County residents took home 1st place medals at the Susan G. Komen North Jersey Race for the Cure on Sunday May 5, 2019, at Liberty State Park in Jersey City.

Mountainside resident Ken Wigg, 50, crossed the finish line with the fastest time of 21 minutes and 39 seconds, taking 1st place overall, and winning the 1st place medal in the Men’s Division for the USATF Certified Timed 5K Run. Wigg took 3rd place at last year’s Race.

Sherry Keyt, 53, of New Providence, a breast cancer survivor, took home the 1st place Gold Medal in the Survivor’s Division after crossing the finish line in 24 minutes and 53 seconds. This was Keyt’s 6th Komen North Jersey Race for the Cure medal; she took 1st place in the Survivor’s Division in 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2018; and came in 2nd in 2014.

In spite of the heavy rain, an estimated 1,000 people braved the weather to come to Liberty State Park and participate in the annual event, which raises money for the fight against breast cancer.
