This past Veterans Day, members of the Blue and Gold Club at Franklin Elementary School in Rahway wanted to honor our veterans in a thoughtful way. So, Anderson Ponce, a student at the school spearheaded a very special project. The club collected donations of candy from Franklin School families and every student in the school wrote a thank you letter. Then, the volunteers from the school-based community service club worked on putting together about 200 goody bags at their blue and gold club meetings. The students went to the veterans service at Veterans Memorial Park in Rahway on Sunday, November 11, 2018, and presented a goody bags to each Veteran. The club also sent goody bags to an Airborne National Reserve Squadron in North Carolina and Atria Assisted Living in Cranford, as well as letters to the veterans at Veterans Memorial Home in Menlo Park. The kids were thrilled to put a smile on so many veterans’ faces.
