Berkeley Heights Third Annual Mayor’s Cup PD vs. FD Charity Softball Game Set for October 7

Batter up…get ready for the third annual Mayor’s Cup Charity Softball Game between the Berkeley Heights Police and Fire Departments. This year’s game will be held on October 7th at 4:30 p.m. at Snyder Avenue Park. The charity game began as the kick-off fundraiser to renovate Veterans Memorial Park. The Police and Fire Departments quickly stepped up to host the game honoring our veterans and military personnel. Many veterans now serve in these departments, and giving back to honor our service men and women quickly became a priority of both. Since the launch of the first game, over $170,000 has been raised by the volunteer Veterans Memorial Park Committee. Through its operation: We Remember efforts, the Committee has completely renovated the park, and last year launched the Hometown Heroes Banner Program.
The entire community has been supportive of these efforts. This year’s game will once again help provide funding for the continued maintenance of the Park and Committee projects. Every dollar raised goes directly to these efforts and is tax deductible for donors. The sense of pride and appreciation for all those who have served in our military and put themselves in harm’s way to protect all of us and the freedom we cherish is immortalized at the park. The statue entitled “Fallen Soldier,” donated by the late Vito Mondelli, a Marine Corps and Korean War veteran, greets those who enter. It is a symbol of the courage and sacrifice made by those who have served.
Again this year, the Berkeley Heights PAL and Rotary Club have volunteered to help with the game festivities. There will be a 50/50 raffle, hot dogs, refreshments, home baked goods, and local restaurants will provide pizza.
Businesses wishing to help are invited to contact us at 908-451-2058. All proceeds will go toward the park projects. The fabulous and family friendly event welcomes everyone to attend. There is no admission charge, but donations are greatly appreciated. Contributions can also be made on line at the Committee’s website: www.BHMemorialPark.com or by check sent to: Memorial Park Renewal Project, 29 Park Avenue, Berkeley Heights, NJ 07922. Volunteers are always welcome to help with projects.
