The 5th grade classes at Deerfield School in Mountainside recently connected with Sarah Weldon from Alderley, United Kingdom via Skype. The students have been following Sarah’s unique expedition in which she will follow the route the Vikings took in the 1400’s. Through her “Great British Viking Quest” episodes (#GBVQ), they are learning about Sarah’s fundraising efforts, route planning, trip preparations, and boat building experiences. The students formulated questions for Sarah on various topics such as contingency plans, boat building and overall preparation. It was a great ancillary experience to their unit of study on the Vikings. They look forward to following Sarah’s quest as she sets sail on May 1, 2017.
