Millburn Public Library March 2024

Register for Library programs by visiting millburnlibrary.org/events. Registrants will receive a Zoom link for online and hybrid programs. All in person programs will take place at the Library building at 200 Glen Ave. Programs are free and open to all residents. 

PROGRAMS FOR ALL AGES:

NEW JERSEY MAKERS DAY

Saturday March 16, 1-4pm, Auditorium and Room B

NJ Makers Day is a celebration of maker culture across New Jersey. This all-ages event connects individuals with libraries, schools, businesses, and independent makerspaces that support making, tinkering, crafting, manufacturing, and STEM-based learning. Join us for hands-on projects for everyone!

PROGRAMS FOR ADULTS:

IN PERSON: SOLAR ECLIPSE WITH PAUL CIRILLO

Wed Feb 21, 10:30-11:15am, Auditorium

On April 8th, there will be a total eclipse of the Sun visible in the United States on a line from Maine to Texas. This is a truly rare and spectacular astronomical event and should not be missed! Learn about the history of eclipses, how and why they happen, where the best viewing locations are and how to prepare for observing this amazing celestial display of nature!

IN PERSON: BACH IN THE SUBWAYS PERFORMANCE

Friday March 22 1-2pm, Sunday March 24 3-4pm, & Tuesday March 26 1-2pm, Auditorium

“Bach-in-the-Subways” is a grassroots movement to spread the joy of classical music and celebrate Bach’s birthday with free, open-to-everyone concerts between March 21st and March 31st of each year. As part of this project, pianist, teacher and writer Birgit Matzerath will perform Bach’s Toccatas for the keyboard and selections from the Well-Tempered Clavier in three concerts at the Millburn Public Library.

VIRTUAL: MARY CASSATT – AMERICAN IMPRESSIONIST WITH SYLVIA LAUDIEN MEO FOR WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH

Thursday March 28, 7-8:30pm, Online

Mary Cassatt is amongst the most important and innovative American Impressionist painters who lived as an expat in Paris, working closely with Edgar Degas and other leading artists of the time, exploring new modern techniques in printing techniques and the use of pastel. While her work is extremely beautiful and relatable in its depiction of women and children, her approach was quite progressive and even feminist in many ways. Registration required.

PROGRAMS FOR KIDS:

IN PERSON: MUSIC & MOVEMENT WITH MISS BEE

Fridays March 1 & 15, 11-11:30am, Auditorium, Ages up to 5 with a caregiver

Little ones will experience the magic of music and movement through traditional and original songs, puppets, parachutes, bubbles, rhythm sticks, egg shakers and other fun instruments and props. Registration required. 

IN PERSON: CRAFTERNOON

Wednesday March 20, 4-5pm, In Person, Auditorium For ages 4-12

What does crafts + afternoon equal? Why, crafternoon of course! Kids are invited to make a fun seasonal craft. Drop in.

IN PERSON: ARABIQA DANCE & MUSIC PERFORMANCE WITH KARIM NAGI

Thursday March 21, 5-6pm, Auditorium 

Karim Nagi is a lifelong advocate of the Arab performing arts, and for the embracing of diversity in the American school system. His music and dance provide an uplifting new narrative, representing the ebullient and welcoming nature of Arab & Muslim people. Registration required.

PROGRAMS FOR TWEENS & TEENS (AGES 12+):

HYBRID: LEARNING DIFFERENCES IN HIGH SCHOOL: HOW TO COPE

Monday March 11, 7-8pm, Williamsburg Room & Online

Learn more about how IEP/504 plans become obsolete after high school: how to secure accommodations for standardized testing with the SAT and ACT, and how to ensure your student receives the support they need in college. Bring a copy of your student’s testing and IEP/504 for reference during the discussion.Registration required.

IN PERSON: CONQUERING THE COLLEGE APPLICATION

Monday March 18, 7-8pm, Room B

Designed for 10th and 11th grade students and their families, “Conquering the College Application” will provide valuable insight into the college search and application process. Guided by a college counselor with seventeen years of experience, participants will learn about the current trends in college admissions and the various factors colleges and universities take into consideration when evaluating applicants.
