Area Baby Center Monthly Diaper Distribution

Area Baby Center Diaper Distribution

On Thursday, January 5, Area Baby Center (ABC) of Summit, NJ celebrated the season of giving at its monthly diaper distribution. ABC provides necessities such as diapers, baby wipes, and toiletries to babies from 70 underserved families in our local community.

Last month, each child in the ABC program received a snowsuit and hat. The snowsuits were donated through St. Teresa of Avila’s Advent Giving Tree, an annual program that provides gifts to some 80 families and 150 children in the parish community. The hats were provided by Christ Child Society of Summit’s Knitting Angels, a group of women who come together with the common purpose of serving children. Blankets were made available to newborns, also from Knitting Angels. A selection of children’s books was offered to participating families.

Each mom in the ABC program received a gift bag with socks, hand cream, and nail polish. These gifts were made possible by long-time Summit resident and ABC volunteer Denise Kelly.

The mission of ABC is to ease the burden of parents caring for a baby up to two years of age and to show the support of the community. ABC distributes 5,000 to 8,500 diapers each month to families in Summit, New Providence, Berkeley Heights, Chatham, Stirling, Gillette, and Springfield.

Diaper distributions take place on the first Thursday of each month at the Fortnightly Club (214 Springfield Avenue, Summit). The next distribution will take place Thursday, February 2. Volunteers are needed for both the morning (8:45-11 a.m.) and evening (5:45-7 p.m.) sessions.
