Marisol Mateo Wins International DAISY Award
Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway Infusion Center nurse Marisol Mateo was awarded the prestigious DAISY Award for her attentive, family-focused care.
The Colonia resident, who was nominated by the wife of a patient, was praised for her careful explanations, her gentle touch, and her intuitive care. With a look, she knows “when you need a blanket, a pillow or a big smile,” the patient’s wife wrote in her nomination letter.
“Every need is met with kindness and great care. She does her skills with kindness and grace,” the patient’s wife wrote. “It all matters when you are ill, that your nurse is so wonderful. Her attentiveness is breathtaking and personal.”
The patient’s wife said Marisol has “the special abilities, no matter what our circumstances are, to help me and make me feel calm and safe.” Her husband would speak so highly of Marisol’s care that “his eyes would fill with tears” when he spoke of her, his wife wrote.
The DAISY Award is an international award celebrating a select number of the most passionate and caring nurses around the world. It was originally created to commemorate J. Patrick Barnes, who was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease.
“The DAISY award recognizes extraordinary nurses,” noted Vice President of Patient Services and Chief Nursing Officer Ann Marie Shears. “Marisol’s care for this patient and his wife exemplifies what DAISY is all about.”
