40th annual Law Enforcement Torch Run

Fanwood and Scotch Plains police officers participated in the 2023 Law Enforcement Torch Run, the statewide fundraiser for the New Jersey Special Olympics.

It’s the 40th anniversary of the event which benefits those with special needs with inclusive athletic programs, support and competition in the Special Olympics. Known as Guardians of the Flame, law enforcement agencies nationwide participate to raise millions of dollars to allow young men and women with intellectual disabilities to participate free of charge.

Running for Fanwood was Lt. Dan Kranz. He was joined by Scotch Plains officers Gerard Rites, Vincent Conti, Michael Baltazar, Joseph Kostecki, Krysti Janusz, Damian Serafin and Charles Tripet. They mustered at the 7-11 on South Avenue to take the symbolic “torch” from the Westfield Police, then ran through downtown Fanwood into Scotch Plains.
