33rd Anniversary of Warren Township Fishing Derby Held May 19, 2018

Submitted by Eleanora Murfitt

Dust off your rods, bring line and hooks, chairs, and the entire family to enjoy a day of fishing on May 19, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Dealaman Pond, Warren, New Jersey.
Prizes will be awarded to ages 5 to 14. No registration is necessary and only Warren residents are allowed at this event. Be prepared to show ID. There are white catfish, musky, and wide mouth bass in the pond. Dealaman pond is a catch and release pond with no barb hooks allowed. There are recycle tubes donated by the Blue Ridge Sportsmen’s Club so fishermen have a place to throw away old line. This pond is under surveillance and will be closed the week before the derby.
Bruce Vitale, who has run this event for 33 years, helps get prizes, fish and bait. Bruce also walks around and helps the kids with fishing issues. The Warren Township PBA Local #235 donates 200 hats and helps at the derby. The Warren Blue Ridge Sportsmen’s Club supplies and cooks over 600 hotdogs and burgers, makes zeppoles, gives away Italian Ice and raffle prizes, and helps with fixing residents rods, lines and hooks. They also walk around and help kids with their casting and catching fish. The 25 to 30 club members set up and clean up for this event. The Recreation Commission supplies drinks, condiments, and worms, and stocks the pond with fish and food.
The Recreation Commission cannot run this event without the dedicated volunteers. They would like to thank Bruce Vitale, PBA Local #235, Warren Blue Ridge Sportsmen’s Club, Bob Marino, Bait & Boat, Marius Z. Idusiak, and all the other volunteers who help serve the food, hand out bait and pick up garbage in advance. We expect another great event!
