Let’s write history together
The Garwood Public Library, in collaboration with the Garwood Historical Committee, is seeking your help in documenting the impact COVID-19 has had on regular people, as it unfolds. The Library is collecting the thoughts and feelings about the impact the current quarantine has had on Garwood’s residents of all ages, for an historical record of how the coronavirus affected our residents and our town. The collection will be made available to the public in the near future, when this quarantine period is behind us.
Starting April 20 and ending whenever the quarantine ends, we ask those who live and or work in Garwood to share, in 1500 words or less, their personal experiences in response to the current crisis. This written record can help us better understand and be prepared for future emergencies, can be used as an archive for historical research, and can be shared to unite us together, even as we are self-isolating.
Some prompts to get you started: What has surprised you most as this quarantine has unfolded? What is your biggest fear? What is an unexpected, positive impact of the quarantine? What is the most difficult part of the quarantine? If you are a student, how has the self-isolation impacted your educational experience? What are your hopes for the future when this is all over?
All submissions must be accompanied by your first and last name, age, and any other information you wish to provide, such as occupation, school, grade, place of business, etc. If you like, you may submit a photo with your submission. By sending us your submission, you are agreeing that the Garwood Public Library and/or the Garwood Historical Committee has permission to share your words and pictures with the public as part of this historical record, and no benefit, financial or otherwise, is given or implied for the submitted materials.
Please send your submissions via email to garwoodlibrary@garwood.org.
