WHS Holds Mock Trial
Union County Superior Court Judge James Hely presided over a mock trial conducted by Westfield High School students on December 16, 2019. Students in Kimberly Leegan’s Mock Trial class presented a fictitious case of a student injured while taking a selfie after sneaking out after curfew during a school-sponsored overnight field trip. The student legal eagles acted as prosecutors, defense attorneys, and witnesses, providing opening and closing statements, direct and cross-examinations during presentation of the fictitious case. Eighth graders from Joseph Perrino’s Mock Trial and Debate Class at Roosevelt Intermediate School also attended and served as jurors.
