Interact Service Club Visits Rotary Club of Westfield
Submitted by Dr. D. Michael Hart
On Tuesday, September 3, 2019, the leaders of the Westfield High School Interact Service Club visited their sponsor, The Rotary Club of Westfield for lunch at Addams Tavern.
Interact President Gabby Scipioni spoke enthusiastically of the plans the Interact Club has for the coming year. She recently attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, a management training program to imbue leadership skills into the upcoming high school club leaders. This program includes team building and leadership training.
The Interact Club would like to build a vegetable garden at Westfield High School to honor the late principal Dr. Nelson. They would grow vegetables from seeds, water them, grow them, harvest them, and donate the vegetables to the local food pantry to help provide food to those in need. Other projects include making Gingerbread houses to help disabled children at Bernice’s Place; reading to children at Westfield Library, making care packages for the elderly; and to sponsor one child for the Gift of Life program, where a child has heart surgery to save their life.
The Interact Club plans to participate in some of the Rotary club activities, such as: making sandwiches at the Presbyterian Church; collecting of bicycles on Saturday, October 19, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.; and Breakfast with the Bands in the Spring.
The Rotary Club of Westfield meets the first two Tuesdays of the month at Addams Tavern for lunch at 12:15, and a third meeting which rotates among local restaurants, and one service project per month. Guests are always welcome. For more information the website is westfieldrotary.org, or email Club Secretary Michael Hart drmhart@yahoo.com.
