Theresa Hanntz, a representative from Somerset County 4H, came and visited North Plainfield’s West End School’s second grade classrooms to present a program called Make Your Plate Great! The students enjoyed reviewing the food groups and identifying various foods. Creating a Venn diagram using hoopla hoops the students were given a picture of a food and were asked if they felt it was a Whoa food, Go food or Slow food. This was a wonderful interactive way for them to see the Go foods are better to eat than the Whoa foods. To cap off the lesson the students were treated to healthy air-popped popcorn that they watched pop right in front of their eyes! This was an excellent lesson in eating right to stay bright and healthy.
