Warren’s Cache in Trash Out Environmental Initiative

The first Warren Cache in Trash Out (CITO) event was held at Dealaman Nature Pond and Trail on Saturday, April 27, 2019. CITO is an environmental initiative supported by the geocaching community. Geocaching is a real world, outdoor treasure hunting game in which you utilize a GPS-enables device to find a geocache hidden at a specific location. Warren has geocaches hidden on different trails such as Glenhurst, Dealaman, and East County Reserve. CITO Events have been happening twice per year since 2002.

Catherine Cooney, an avid geocacher in the area, organized the first Warren CITO event with the support of Warren Township Recreation. The event was a success that included a group of about 40 volunteers including Geocachers, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and town residents who cleaned the trail by pruning overhead and trailside overgrowth, picked up blown down sticks and leaves from winter, picked up trash and emptied the fishing line reclamation tubes. Volunteers picked up over 12 bags worth of trash.

Volunteers received a CITO event T-shirt and recycling giveaway bags supplied by Warren Township. CorTex Products also donated Outdoor Skin Protection Kits that were given out to volunteers.

Warren Recreation would like to thank Catherine Cooney and all the volunteers for helping to clean up Dealaman Pond and Nature Trail. Another CITO event will happen in the fall on a different trail in Warren.
