 All Somerset County-operated Senior Centers offer a nutritionally balanced lunch, Monday through Friday, for a suggested donation of $2.50, for anyone 60 and above.
Menu choices include a hot meat-based or meatless entrОe or a cold meat-based or meatless boxed lunch. Please make reservations prior to 10:00 am the previous business day. Why not invite a friend or neighbor to join you for lunch! As an additional suggestion, why not come earlier in the day and enjoy one of the center’s many programs.
Tone and Flexibility Exercise Class with Sabina
October 12, 19 & 26 – 10:45 am.
Enjoy an energizing class suitable for beginner and intermediate levels. Exercising with Sabina will boost your energy level, reduce stress, and help tone your body by using resistance bands, exercise balls and dance moves.
Exercises can be done standing up or sitting down.
Brains and Games with Adrienne

 Did you know that solving puzzles or challenging yourself with new mind-stretching activities like learning music can stimulate the brain and enhance your creative and critical thinking processes? Join Adrienne for some mind tingling, brain stumpers for a fun-filled, intellectual workout.
“Unused Medication Drop Off Opportunity
October 12 – 9:30-10:30 am.
 Officer Nick Fazio, from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department, will be stopping by the center to collect any unused or expired medications. Please take advantage of this safe way to dispose of your medications.
YOU MUST BRING THE UNUSED MEDICATION TO THE CENTER BETWEEN 9:30 and 10:30 am. CENTER STAFF CAN NOT ACCEPT ANY DROPPED OFF MEDICATIONS PRIOR TO THIS DAY AND TIME.
SYRINGES ARE NOT ACCEPTED.
“Passport Travel to New Guinea”

New Guinea is an island located in the western part of the Pacific Ocean, north of Australia. It is politically divided into the Indonesian province of Irian Jaya (West Irian) and the independent country of Papua New Guinea. It is an undeveloped tourist location and is home to some of the most interesting tribal cultures in the world and is filled with diversity. It is known for its unique flora and fauna, as well as the tribal culture of painted and masked men. Join us while the Vogel’s share their travel experiences with the audience.

Featured Book: “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks,”

Her name was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know her as HeLa. She was a poor black tobacco farmer whose cells—taken without her knowledge in 1951—became one of the most important tools in medicine, vital for developing the polio vaccine, cloning, gene mapping, in vitro fertilization, and more. Henrietta’s cells have been bought and sold by the billions, yet she remains virtually unknown, and her family can’t afford health insurance.

“Classic Comedy of Radio & Television” by Walter Choroszewski
October 24 – 10:30 am.
Walter presents the history of broadcast comedy from its radio debut in the 1920’s through its Golden Age with Abbott & Costello, Burns & Allen and many more. Some radio stars transitioned to television in the 1940’s hosting several comedy-variety shows. He concludes with the creation of classic sitcoms including “The Honeymooners” and all-time favorite “I Love Lucy.”
State Health Insurance Program (SHIP)
October 28
a counselor will be available to provide Free help to New Jersey Medicare beneficiaries who have problems with, or questions about their health benefits. SHIP is a statewide program by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services.

HEARING SOCIETY WEEKLY CLASSES
The Hearing Society, a local not-for-profit organization serving people with impaired hearing, resumed its weekly sessions in speech (lip) reading. The class meets at the First Baptist Church of Westfield, 170 Elm Street, each Thursday, September through May, 10:30-11:45 a.m., unless otherwise announced. Coffee and light refreshments are served before each session.
