“The War of the Worlds! Live! A Staged Presentation” by Ranconteur Radio will be presented at the Linden Library, 31 E. Henry Street, Linden, New Jersey, on Monday, April 9, 2018, at 7 p.m.
First performed in 1938, this radio drama by Howard Koch, adapted from the classic H. G. Wells novel, is set in Grover Mills, New Jersey, and begins as a musical broadcast intermittently interrupted by news flashes about strange explosions on Mars and the landing of a cylindrical spacecraft on Earth. The simulated “news bulletins” of the original broadcast, narrated by Orson Welles, suggested to many contemporaneous listeners that an actual alien invasion was currently in progress and, as a result, there were instances of panicked evacuation throughout the United States, especially in New Jersey!
With period costumes! Theatrical lighting! Vintage commercials! Golden Age radio equipment! Fog effects! And, of course, extensive sound effects!
Ranconteur Radio stages theatrical presentations of vintage radio plays, classic works of literature/film, and pop culture parodies for live audiences at traditional and improvised venues throughout the Tri-State area. For more info, visit RaconteurRadio.com
Wait; What is This?
A radio play or audio narrative, what some call an “ear movie,” is a story told through dialogue, sound effects, and music. We add costumes, colored spots, a fatboy Elvis mic, and, sometimes, a fog machine and/or a strobe light, then perform it for live audiences at a range of traditional and improvised venues throughout the tri-State area.
The program is sponsored by Meridia/Capodagli Property. Founded in 1970, Capodagli Property Company is recognized for its ability to envision thriving communities on barren parcels of raw land. We pride ourselves on being pioneer developers of affordable luxury properties in urban and suburban areas throughout New Jersey and New York. Since inception, Capodagli Property Company has completed over half a billion dollars-worth of development, construction, and management projects.
